The active compound in Levitra is Vardenafil. Vardenafil is one of the best known PDE5 inhibitors. PDE5 inhibitors like Vardenafil inhibit the degrading action of the Phosphodiesterase Type 5 hormone thus gaining the name PDE5 inhibitors. Following this, the muscle and the blood vessels in the genitals are relaxed. This relaxation causes the openings of the blood vessels to be widened causing the blood in the vicinity to enter the blood vessels. This causes the blood vessels to swell up causing the surrounding muscles to become stiff and give the person a firm enough erection. It is noteworthy to point that the medication is not as effective without the person being stimulated enough.

·         Another off label use of Levitra is that the medication is used for the treatment of jet lag.

·         People with cardiac, renal and hepatic ailments should avoid this drug as well, since the medication Levitra can possibly aggravate the ailment.
·         Levitra must not be mixed with other erectile dysfunction medications or alcohol. Alcohol lowers the blood pressure of the individual, and so does PDE5 inhibitors. Taking both the alcohol and PDE5 inhibitor together can take the blood pressure down to dangerously low levels.
·         Levitra is an erectile dysfunction pill. As such the medication should be used by its purpose and not for recreational purposes.

Levitra is indeed a very helpful drug but should be taken with proper care and precautions so that the medication does not harm the user instead.
