Nuvigil is one of the most widely known medications for the treatment of various sleeping disorders like Narcolepsy. Like Modafinil, Armodafinil based drugs like Nuvigil were granted FDA Approval for cognitive enhancement and wakefulness purposes in the year 2007.

The Armodafinil smart drug compound in the Nuvigil smart drug excites the Orexin receptors (OX1 and OX2) of the body. These receptors also called the Hypocretin receptors help the body in waking up and keeping the person feeling active for long periods of time. The Orexin peptide that is instrumental in the regulation of the arousal, wakefulness and appetite of the individual. As this peptide is activated the medication allows the user to feel more active and awake. Now the compound acts on the Dopamine neurotransmitter of the body. This Dopamine neurotransmitter of the body is produced in the Hypothalamus of the brain and this neurotransmitter is responsible for the regulation of the sleep cycle and the increase of cognition in the person. The flow of the Dopamine neurotransmitter is inhibited at the reuptake point. This causes the continuously produced Dopamine to be collected in the form of a pool in the area of the reuptake. These excess levels of Dopamine are later used by the body for its cognitive, Eugeroic purposes (wakefulness). Other hormones that directly or indirectly impact the cognition and the activeness of the person like Norepinephrine (responsible for wakefulness and elevated heart rate), Histamine (regulates the sleep cycle) and Serotonin (regulates mood, useful for memory and for the creation of new neurons [Neurogenesis]) are also increased.
Nuvigil is a medication that should be used with proper care and precautions. When one abuses or overdoses the drug the medication might in return harm the user. Avoiding taking the medication with alcohol or even mixing the Nuvigil with other smart drugs can harm the body.
